Perfumed Gloves and Jasmine Fields: How France Become a Fragrance CapitalJoin us for a night of artwork and perfume! This lecture and interactive session led by artwork historian and perfume author Jessica Murphy will concentrate on France’s rise to prominence as a middle of Western perfumery. The phrase “French fragrance” evokes luxurious, high quality, and sensuality. But how did that affiliation come to be? France’s ascendance as a website of perfume manufacturing from the sixteenth century via the nineteenth century was as a consequence of a really particular mix of patronage and politics, in addition to a well timed mixture of commerce, know-how, and terroir.
